7:50 a.m. – Stair Climb begins
During the stair climb, several high school students planning to major in communications are anticipated to read aloud the names of the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.
Our wrestlers will be climbing approximately 1,980 stadium steps, representing the 110 floors of the World Trade Center. More importantly, this morning is about making sure the significance of September 11 is not lost on a generation of students who were not yet alive when it happened.
We want our athletes to understand that this is about much more than completing a difficult physical challenge. It is about remembering the lives that were lost, honoring the firefighters, law enforcement officers, first responders, military members, and civilians whose courage defined that day, and recognizing the sacrifice and unity that followed.
Having members of our community standing alongside our students makes that message even more meaningful.
Please feel free to attend even if you are unable to participate in the actual stair climb. Your presence alone is important to us, and we would be honored to have you there.
