17th Annual Pug-O-Ween
DFW Pug Rescue is pleased to announce its 17th Annual Pug-O-Ween. The event will be held on October 27th from 1 pm to 5 pm at Grapevine Convention Center located at 1209 South Main Street in Grapevine, TX 76051.
Pug-O-Ween is an annual fall celebration, the largest and most successful event of the year, for the rescue pugs and will draw more than 500 people and their dogs. It will host a costume contest, silent auction, bake sale, pug races, and more in an effort to raise awareness and funds for the organization. Admission is $10 per person at the door; or $8 pre-paid online at www.dfwpugs.com. Dogs are free, and all non-aggressive breeds are welcome to enter the costume contest.
The costume contest is the most exciting part of the event – including elaborate displays and ornate costumes to match. Some take the costume contest pretty seriously according to Fred Campos, Founder and Director for DFW Pug Rescue. “We have hundreds of pugs in costume and it gets pretty competitive. It’s gotten to the point that it’s not just a dog in costume, but a whole theme. The costumes get really extravagant.” Recent winners include a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader costume complete with a football field and score board, a Bride of Franken-Pug, and a Michael Jackson pug. The pug parade also features pugs available for adoption and rescued pugs with their new owners.
About DFW Pug Rescue
DFW Pug Rescue Club, Inc. (DFWPRC) was incorporated in July 1997 as a non-stock, non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation for the rescue, care, and placement of unwanted, mistreated, or homeless pugs in Texas. DFWPRC is the largest pug rescue organization in the United States and rescues about ten pugs per week. It has rescued and placed over 5,500 pugs and rescues all pugs regardless of age or medical condition. DFWPRC is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization and does not have a staging area to hold its rescue pugs, so it depends on the generosity of its volunteers to provide foster homes until permanent homes can be located. 100% of all funds donated to DFW Pug Rescue are used to pay for veterinary care, which exceeds $200,000 a year.
