May 1    Missed Fortune - Texas Star Dinner Theater
Greedy Granbury Green, the town’s big shot banker, has been bumped off and Marshal Jim Courtright may need a crystal ball to figure out who’s done it. Could it be Dusty Muddwater, the fastidiously clean and directionally challenged prospector with gold in his future? Or was it Tatyana, the self-proclaimed Queen of the Gypsies, who read more than Mr. Green’s palms. Then there’s Clarice Green, wife of the dearly departed, who may have taken her horse training skills a bit too far. Or maybe Mortimer Morton, the local undertaker, had an extra casket to fill. All predictions indicate chaos and laughter in the immediate future as you help the Marshal read the signs and solve the crime.

May 9    Runway Presents...Open Classical
Open Classical takes classical music favorites and reimagines them as virtuoso Jazz pieces. With a combo of the top classical and jazz musicians in DFW, the effect is a fusion of Bach and Gershwin, an eclectic and vibrant experience like no other!

Inspired by a little known recorded collaboration in the 1930’s by greats Eddie South, Stephane Grapelli and Django Reinhart, Bach and Vivaldi violin concertos are swung and played violinist/composer Mark Landson with a jazz combo. Then, great melodies from Beethoven’s Fur Elise and Mozart’s Symphony in G minor are used as the melodies for jazz songs, performed by the stunning artistry of Damon K Clark, voted as best jazz vocalist in the Dallas Observer Music Awards.

Reviews of the initial performances have been stellar. TheaterJones said “Mark Landson and his Open Classical group have done it again—they’ve made classical music both innovative and fun”, calling it a “delightful performance” with “consistently excellent musicians.” CraveDFW said “Always innovative, Open Classical just raised the bar.”

Opening the program is another unique and innovative collaboration. In “Bach Suites and Two Feet Beats”, Mark Landson is joined by tap dance artist Katelyn Harris, giving Bach’s famous Solo Suites for Viola an exciting twist by added driving counter rhythms of a virtuoso tap dancer.

May 15    Missed Fortune - Texas Star Dinner Theater

May 29    CANCELED Business Insight Series

Unfortunately, this session of the Business Insight Series has been canceled!

The Grapevine Chamber's Business Insight Series is designed for individual employees, managers or business owners who are interested in improving or developing their business skills.

Topic:

How Your Credit & Lending Go Hand in Hand

Things you will take away from this session:

  • What truly effects your credit?
  • How does credit impact your purchasing power?
  • What does your income say you can buy?

Speakers:

Rich McDowell, Academy Mortgage Corporation (pictured)

Dana LaRue, D&G Credit, LLC

About the speakers:

Rich McDowell has been in mortgage lending for more than 10 years. Yes, times have changed! Rich served for over four years in the U.S. Army and was the first deployment into Bosnia after the Dayton peace accord was signed, which was the longest deployment since Vietnam before the current war. What drives Rich - We truly do live in the best country in the world, you show me a person that works hard, learns from failure, and I will show you an extremely successful person!

Dana LaRue has been in the financial arena for years, has been certified I.A.P.D.A. and used to work with one of the largest credit bureaus. We all know life happens, job loss or a huge reduction in income, divorce, medical issues – even death. When these types of catastrophes occur - your credit score can take a beating. Fast forward a few years - you’ve picked yourself up, you’ve pulled yourself out the mess created because of your catastrophe – thinking you should be ready to start all over again, only to find your credit score is STILL low and there are more collections now! You see, your credit score is your reputation with your creditors – and sometimes those creditors lie. Some creditors change the dates on OLD debt, making it look brand new! It’s usually not accidental – it’s usually intentional – because the newer the collection the more it impacts your score, and therefore, the more likely you are to pay it, now that you are getting back on your feet.

Collection tactics like that, are illegal, yet they tend to happen all the time… There is a computer system – written specifically to hold creditors accountable to the law, and it’s about time too!

May 29    Lonestar and Laundry & Bourbon

Written as companion pieces, these two one-act plays center around a trio of “good ole boys” and their wives. Set in small town Texas on any other hot summer Saturday, these couples allow us in to see their discontent, their misfortunes and their lives surrounding their favorite alcohol…a little Lone Star for the men and a little bourbon and Coke for the women. This witty comedy reminds us that boys will be boys and the women that love them will love them through thick and thin.
