Apr 5    EPIC Earth Day Experience - Keep Grapevine Beautiful

EPIC Earth Day Info Packet

KGVB is hosting the 2nd Annual EPIC Earth Day Experience on April 5 in celebration of national Earth Day. "Last year, we had more than 2,000 people attend and expect to top 3,000 this year," said KGVB Executive Director Mary Jo Tellin. "Thomas The Train and the Chocolate Festival are also planned on the same day! It will be a great time for families to spend the day in Grapevine."

The free event includes eco-friendly vendors, an award-winning keynote speaker, entertainment and activities, including a full-scale eco house equipped with easy, energy-efficient ideas for everyone. "Vendor space and sponsorships are going quickly." Mary Jo said. "Sponsors and vendors benefit from the multiple events' large crowds that include area residents and tourists. Sponsors also like being associated with an eco-friendly event and award-winning city for implementing green and sustainable living."

The day brings statewide attention as it starts off at 8:00 am with Don't Mess With Texas Trash-Off where everyone can help with the litter pick up and beautification project in historic downtown Grapevine. According to Mary Jo, "This project is how we participate in the Great American Clean Up, the nation's largest community improvement program."

To be a sponsor, vendor or volunteer, please contact Mary Jo Tellin at (817) 410-3490.

Apr 10    Membership Luncheon
Program: Bruce Ogletree - Keep Grapevine Beautiful - Sustain the Vine
Sponsor: City of Grapevine
Caterer: Winewood

Program Notes:

Sustain the Vine is a scorecard for environmentally responsible practices whose key purpose is to inform and educate businesses about activities and programs that reduce the amount of natural resources consumed, non-recyclable waste and production of pollutants.

Bruce Ogletree and his wife moved to Grapevine in 1997, and it wasn't long before he came to appreciate the unique mix of culture and opportunity enjoyed here. His love of the city and all it has to offer that prompted a career change into real estate, and for the past several years he has been a builder and general contractor creating more homes.

In his volunteer work with Keep Grapevine Beautiful, Bruce has lent his skills as a builder and talent for working with people to numerous projects benefiting KGVB, local parks, city facilities and the citizens of Grapevine. Most recently, he has assumed chairmanship of the newly-formed KGVB Sustainability Committee, and working with several talented recruits, Bruce has launched Sustain the Vine, helping to raise awareness and foster a cooperative competition among local business regarding sustainable business practices.

It is Bruce's goal to do his part to help Grapevine hold on to the things that make it charming and beautiful, while also participating in its growth. As a businessman, he salutes all those who make up the backbone of his adoptive home town, and he aspires to make his own lasting contribution to it.

Step back in time with a nostalgic ride on the Grapevine Vintage Railroad. The railroad is serviced by two Victorian-style locomotives, including "Puffy" the 1896 steam locomotive, the oldest continuously operating steam engine in the South, and "Vinny," a 1953 GP-7 diesel locomotive.

Most weekends throughout the year, The Grapevine Vintage Railroad travels along the historic Cotton Belt Route between Grapevine and the Fort Worth Stockyards. The 21-mile trip rolls at a leisurely pace and is perfect for the entire family.
